The Tennessee Titans will be without star running back Derrick Henry for potentially the rest of the season due to a foot injury, so the AFC contender will need to find someone to replace him in the backfield. And it didn't take long for the club to identify their emergency option as Tennessee has signed veteran Adrian Peterson, according to CBS Sports NFL insider Josina Anderson. This signing comes after Peterson worked out for the team on Monday.
"The workout was good," Peterson told Anderson. "It feels good to get back into football movement and to sign with a contender. We have big shoes to fill for Derrick Henry who I feel was the front-runner for MVP, but I'm looking forward to contributing to the running back room and helping the Titans to win the division and to chase the ultimate goal of winning a championship."
Peterson is 36 years old, but he is one of the best running backs in NFL history. He also hasn't looked his age on the field, as he rushed for 604 yards and seven touchdowns last year for the Detroit Lions. Before his stint in Detroit, Peterson spent a couple of seasons with Washington, and served as their only consistent offensive weapon. He even rushed for 1,042 yards and seven touchdowns in 2018.
Peterson will be most remembered from his days with the Minnesota Vikings. The No. 7 overall pick in the 2007 NFL Draft rushed for a whopping 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2012, and won NFL MVP along with NFL Offensive Player of the Year. In 10 seasons with the Vikings, Peterson rushed for 97 touchdowns and made seven Pro Bowls while leading the NFL in rushing yards three different times. He is currently fifth on the all-time rushing list with 14,820 yards.
Even as an older player, Peterson has been productive wherever he has spent time. The future Pro Football Hall of Famer has a huge opportunity here to step in as a starter with a legitimate contender that likes to run the football.
