Allen elected to become a free agent Thursday.
After Allen was reinstated from the injured list July 23, he received just 11 plate appearances prior to being DFA'd by the Yankees on Tuesday. He'll now presumably look to join another organization with a clearer path to major-league playing time, though he may have to settle for a minor-league deal.
