Liranzo was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Monday.
Liranzo owns a 5.85 ERA in 67.2 innings at the Triple-A level, walking 15.8 percent of opposing batters. He'll make way on the 40-man roster for Yefry Ramirez, who was acquired in a trade with Baltimore on Monday.
