Swoope appears to have taken hold of second-string tight end duties after the Colts didn't select a player at the position during the 2017 NFL Draft, Stephen Holder of IndyStar.com reports.

Jack Doyle is expected to open the season as the team's top tight end after the Colts sent Dwayne Allen to the Patriots in a trade back in March. That allows Swoope to push for the No. 2 role behind Doyle, despite pulling in just 15 receptions for 297 yards and a touchdown during the 2016 campaign. With the Colts not electing to draft a tight end and instead bringing in a few undrafted free agents, it appears they feel confident with what they have in Swoope, which should allow him to take on a bigger role in the offense moving forward.
