Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy revealed Wednesday that Gallup (knee) hasn't yet had surgery to repair his torn ACL, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The delay in his procedure isn't out of the ordinary, as it often takes a few weeks for knee swelling to subside after an ACL injury before doctors are comfortable operating, even when in the case where it's a "clean" ligament tear like Gallup's. As of Wednesday, it's been two and a half weeks since Gallup suffered the injury in a Week 17 loss to Arizona. Still, the timing of his ACL tear puts Gallup in serious danger of missing the start of the 2022 campaign, a major complication as he's scheduled for unrestricted free agency this spring.
