The 2021 NFL season may barely be in the books, but Dave Richard is already getting a jump on his 2022 preparation by highlighting at least one key statistic to know for each NFL team that had a major bearing on their 2021 performance and could mean a great deal for their 2022 outlook. In this space, Dave dives into the Houston Texans.

More Early Prep (AFC): BAL | BUF | CIN | CLE | DEN | TEN | HOU | IND | JAC | KC | LAC | LV | MIA | NE | NYJ

More Early Prep (NFC): ARI | ATL | CAR | CHI | DAL | DET | GB | LAR | MIN | SEA | NYG | WAS | PHI | NO | TB | SF

Houston Texans stats to know

There aren't any sexy stats for the Texans, but it's worth drilling down into Davis Mills' final five starts.

  • Mills: 18-plus Fantasy points in 4 of 5
  • Cooks: 18-plus PPR points in 3 of 4
  • Brevin Jordan: 9-plus PPR points in 2 of 4
  • All Texans RBs: 15-plus PPR points in 1 of 5

And just so we don't completely short-change the Texans, here's where Mills' targets went in those five starts:

  • Receivers: 63.4% (Cooks had a 21.6% target share)
  • Running backs: 21.6% (Burkhead had a 11.4% target share)
  • Tight ends: 15%

I know there's a change in offensive playcaller, but if Mills isn't replaced in Houston, perhaps some more attention should be paid to his receivers and running backs on Draft Day.
