Johnson agreed to a deal with the Raiders on Friday, Jimmy Durkin of the Bay Area News reports. Johnson last took the field during the regular season with the Patriots for one game in 2015 and was most recently waived by the Redskins in May. The 26-year-old figures to be a long shot for the final roster, but he'll compete for a spot providing depth at linebacker.
Johnson was waived by Washington on Tuesday, the team's official site reports. Johnson was waived alongside linebacker Steven Daniels after the Redskins selected Ryan Anderson in the second round of last weekend's draft.
Three injured players have been placed on the inactive list by the Patriots for their season opener Thursday night against Pittsburgh. They are running back Travaris Cadet (hamstring), defensive lineman Trey Flowers (knee) and safety Tavon Wilson (quad). The healthy inactives are offensive lineman Ryan Wendell, defensive lineman Khyri Thornton, linebacker Rufus Johnson and cornerback Justin Coleman.
The Saints waived or released cornerback Rod Sweeting, linebackers Victor Butler, Rufus Johnson and Kevin Reddick, quarterback Logan Kilgore, tight end Travis Beckum, offensive tackle Manase Foketi and defensive tackle George Uko. The moves bring New Orleans' roster to the mandated 75-man limit.
Saints running back Pierre Thomas (chest) is the lone injured player on the inactive report for the Saturday playoff battle in Seattle. The healthy scratches are quarterback Ryan Griffin, corernback Terrence Frederick, linebacker Rufus Johnson, safety Jordan Pugh, defensive end Tyrunn Walker and wide receiver Nick Toon.
