  • Bears' T.J. Edwards: Joining Chicago

Edwards is set to sign a three-year contract with the Bears, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. An undrafted free agent in 2019, the Wisconsin product caught on with Philadelphia and made at least 12 starts each of the past three seasons, including all 17 games in 2022 en route to a career-high 159 tackles. A native of the Chicago area, Edwards mostly played middle linebacker for the Eagles but could slide over to the weak side for the Bears if they want to keep Jack Sanborn (ankle) in the middle after his solid showing as a rookie in 2022. Edwards' contract reportedly is for $19.5 million over three years, including $12 million in guarantees.

Edwards finished the regular season with 159 tackles, including 99 solo tackles, and a pair of sacks. Edwards' tackle total led his team and tied him for seventh in the league. He improved on an already strong 2021 campaign in which he tied for 15th in the league with 130 tackles. Edwards is still far and away the Eagles' leading tackler this season with 124, and he is now seven stops shy of setting a new career high in this category. Edwards should have a very good chance to do just this while facing the Cowboy's prolific rushing offense Week 16.

Edwards had 130 tackles last season, so the middle linebacker should produce plenty of similar outings this season if he can stay healthy.

Although Edwards is not expected to keep that prominent of a role, he should still be a main fixture of the Eagles' defense in 2022.

Edwards was listed as a limited participate at Wednesday's walkthrough due to an ankle injury. Edwards apparently picked up the ankle injury during Sunday's loss to the Giants, but it doesn't appear to be a serious concern.
