Manager Mike Matheny informed Rosenthal on Saturday that he will be removed from the closer role, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Matheny stuck by Rosenthal through the highs and lows for nearly two and a half years, but after another blown save Friday, the team decided it was time to make a change. Rosenthal gave up three runs on two hits and a walk while failing to record an out against Seattle on Friday, the second time in four appearances he failed to retire a batter. Seung Hwan Oh appears primed to take over in the ninth inning, but lefty Kevin Siegrist could vulture some saves as well.
