Scherzer did not allow a hit or walk while striking out two across a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save in Game 5 of the NLDS on Thursday against the Giants.

The Dodgers took the lead of in the top of the ninth inning after Kenley Jansen maintained a tie in the eighth frame, which left Scherzer to close the game. The only baserunner to reach against him came via an error by Justin Turner. The game concluded in somewhat controversial fashion, as Wilmer Flores was rung up on a questionable check swing. Even so, Scherzer was in strong form and picked up the first save of his career to send the Dodgers to the NLCS.
