Tanney (foot) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Jason Wolf of the Tennessean reports. Tanney broke his foot in the preseason finale. Since he's run out of practice squad eligibility, the Titans were able to retain Tanney's rights by keeping him on IR. Thus, don't expect an injury settlement to be in the news anytime soon.
Tanney was promoted to the active roster Tuesday, Jason Wolf of the Tennessean reports. Tanney has been on the Titans practice squad since Week 2 and he'll suit up for the team for the first time in Week 17. He was promoted as a result of Marcus Mariota (leg) moving to injured reserve. Tanney will serve as the backup quarterback behind Matt Cassel.
Tanney was waived by the Titans on Tuesday. After an unappetizing preseason performance and inactive status for Sunday's season opener, Tennessee opted to part ways with Tanney on Tuesday. As a result, the Titans now list just two quarterbacks on their active roster. In all likelihood, Tennessee will look to add another quarterback before next week's game.
Tanney is inactive Sunday versus the Vikings, the team's official site reports. The third quarterback's designation comes as no surprise, given his role in the pecking order behind Marcus Mariota and veteran Matt Cassel.
Tanney completed 6-of-10 passes for 67 yards without a touchdown or interception in Saturday's preseason opener against the Chargers. Tanney put up very modest statistics considering he played the entire second half. He's the clear third option in Tennessee behind Marcus Mariota and Matt Cassel.
