The 49ers waived Hawkins (hand) from IR with an injury settlement Wednesday, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
Hawkins will now be free to search for an opportunity elsewhere in the league when healthy. He suffered a hand fracture during San Francisco's preseason finale.

The 49ers placed Hawkins (hand) on injured reserve Tuesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Hawkins fractured his hand in Friday's preseason game against the Chargers and Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area said Saturday that he will need surgery. Hawkins is now slated to miss the 2023 season unless he reaches an injury settlement with the team.

Hawkins will need surgery after breaking his hand during Friday's preseason game, Jennifer Lee Chan of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The 25-year-old will be forced to miss time after finding out the severity of his hand injury. Hawkins spent last year on the 49ers' practice squad and after this surgery, he could very well end up there again ahead of the coming season.
