Darnell Dockett: To retire Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Dockett will retire from the NFL as a Cardinal on Monday.

Dockett will sign a ceremonial contract Monday to bring his 11-year career to a close with the team it started with, the Cardinals. The veteran tore his ACL in training camp in 2014 and was cut by the 49ers during the preseason last year, so his last game played occurred in 2013. Nonetheless, a third-round pick in 2004, Dockett enjoyed a long career that included 40.5 sacks and three Pro-Bowl selections, while helping lead Arizona to the Super Bowl in 2008.

He played in every game but two for the Cardinals from 2004 to 2013 and earned Pro Bowl berths in 2007, 2009 and 2010.

Cardinals DST carries more risk than last year
by Larry Hartstein |

The Cardinals DST finished sixth in Fantasy points last season while ranking first against the run. This is not that defense.

Arizona lost defensive tackle Darnell Dockett (torn ACL) and linebackers Karlos Dansby (free agency) and Daryl Washington (suspension), among others. That trio accounted for 14 sacks, six interceptions, two touchdowns and a fumble recovery. Linebacker John Abraham (11.5 sacks) reported late to camp following a DUI arrest and at age 36 is unlikely to repeat his 2013 production.

The Cardinals are counting on 34-year-old Larry Foote and unproven Kevin Minter at linebacker. Safety Tyrann Mathieu (knee) is not 100 percent yet. Arizona did add corner Antonio Cromartie to team with superstar Patrick Peterson.

Monday night, Arizona hosts an efficient Chargers' team that gave up the eighth-fewest Fantasy points (7.3 per game) to DSTs last year. Consider the Cardinals DST a low-end starting option at best.

Fines everywhere in Week 6 Cardinals-49ers game
by Jeff Lippman |

Several Cardinals defensive players and two San Francisco players were handed down fines for actions occuring during the Week 6 game in which the 49ers hosted, NBC Sports reports Saturday.

Cardinals DT Alameda Ta'amu, safety Tyrann Mathieu and defensive end Darnell Dockett were each fined for separate incidents during the game.

Ta'amu was fined $10,000 for stepping on San Francisco offensive lineman Alex Boone's face. Of course, Boone was also fined $7,875 for hitting Ta'amu prior to that.

Mathieu was docked $7,875 for tackling 49ers running back Kendall Hunter deep in the end zone after he had already scored. Mathieu was flagged for the cheap hit and Anquan Boldin was flagged for retaliating against him. Boldin was not fined, however.

Dockett was docked $7,875 for a late hit against a San Francisco player and 49ers tackle Anthony Davis was fined $15,750 for an illegal block in the back.

Cardinals DST keeps forcing turnovers
by Larry Hartstein |

The Cardinals DST produced at least two turnovers for the third straight week in the 32-20 loss at San Francisco. But the defense had no answer for 49ers tight end Vernon Davis, who caught eight passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns.

Safety Yeremiah Bell intercepted Colin Kaepernick at the goal lline, and linebacker Daryl Washington recovered a Kaepernick fumble. Defensive tackle Darnell Dockett had a sack. Defensive end Calais Campbell and linebacker Karlos Dansby combined for a sack.

The Cardinals DST probably will be without Campbell when it plays Seattle on Thursday. Campbell was taken off the field on a stretcher in Week 6.
