Harris was released by the Steelers on Thursday with a non-football illness, Ray Fittipaldo of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Harris failed his conditioning test prior to the start of training camp, leading to him ultimately being released by the team. He's now a free agent and is free to sign with another team so long as his health checks out. Its unclear if the issue he has is severe or if it will prevent him from playing for a significant period of time.
Harris was waived Tuesday by the Saints, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
The Saints have regularly released and re-signed Harris for the last few seasons, so his dismissal hardly means his window to rejoin the organization is closed. Assuming Harris doesn't get picked up by another team via waivers, he could rejoin the Saints later in the season if New Orleans is in need of depth along the offensive line.
Harris, who has had six previous stints with the Saints since May, will fill the roster spot of cornerback Dexter McDougle, who was waived Tuesday. He'll provide important depth for the Saints at tackle after starter Terron Armstead suffered an undisclosed injury in the Week 12 loss to the Rams.
