The Braves are engaged with three teams in trade negotiations for catcher/outfielder Evan Gattis, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today on Wednesday. The Astros, Rangers and Royals have been among the clubs that have shown interest this winter, per MLB.com.

According to a source close to Gattis, he was in Houston on Wednesday undergoing a physical exam in anticipation of a possible deal. A rival executive told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports that a trade agreement must be in place and the commissioner’s office must be notified before a team consents to a player having a physical. He hit .263/.317/.493 over 369 at-bats, but was hindered by a back injury over the second half of the year. Gattis won't be a free-agent until 2019.
