The deadline for teams and their arbitration-eligible players to file salary figures for the 2016 season was 1 p.m. ET on Friday. More 150 players are eligible for arbitration this winter, and the vast majority agreed to contracts prior to Friday's deadline.
Teams and players who did not agreed to a contract prior to the deadline can still negotiate a deal of any size. Arbitration hearings will take place in February and only a handful of cases actually get to a hearing. The three-person panel hears each side's case, then picks either the salary the team filed, or the salary the player filed. Nothing else.
So, needless to say, arbitration news dominated the baseball landscape Friday. We could see some pitching trades soon, though. Here's a recap of Friday's hot stove news, including all the day's arbitration signings and filings. Several closers landed big paydays.
