The quarterback position has always been advertised as deep, even if that hasn't been true for large portions of 2021. But it should be more true in Week 17.
The return of Taysom Hill is at least part of the reason why. Hill is quite obviously an enormous upgrade over Ian Book, and he's been a pretty fantastic Fantasy quarterback in five of his seven career starts. This week's matchup against the Panthers isn't particularly good or bad, which makes Hill a low-end starter.
Right next to Hill in the projections is Trey Lance, who we're currently projecting to fill in for Jimmy Garoppolo. This is another thing that makes the position deeper as, like Hill, Lance's rushing ability gives him both a higher floor and ceiling than the 49ers starter. But just make sure you have a backup plan if you're planning on starting Lance because Garoppolo is still fighting to play through his injury.
Also, Tyler Huntley or Lamar Jackson make the position even deeper depending on who starts. I rank Huntley just behind Hill and Lance, but Jackson would be just in front of them. The former MVP has not lived up to expectations this season, but he's still averaging 22 Fantasy points and more than 300 yards per game despite only playing 14% of the snaps in his most recent game.
