Oklahoma State escapes Lubbock with 41-34 win

If you were to look at the box score, you would think Oklahoma State dominated Texas Tech on Saturday night. It had 597 yards of offense compared to Tech's 384, but red zone failures nearly killed the Cowboys. Oklahoma State had eight red-zone possessions. Two of them ended with field goals, two ended with missed field goals, and another resulted in a pick-six. Oh, and there were three touchdowns. None of which were bigger than Mason Rudolph's 16-yard scamper to give Oklahoma State a 41-34 lead with 1:12 to play. The entire Tech defense bit on the exchange between Rudolph and the running back, crashing down on the back, and nobody came within five yards of Rudolph as he kept the ball. He could have walked to the end zone. The win helps Oklahoma State avoid its second straight defeat and gives Texas Tech its first loss of the season.

Alabama crushes Ole Miss 66-3

The Tide is scoring as many points as it wants to against Ole Miss tonight. It had a 59-3 lead on the Rebels after only three quarters, racking up 594 yards per play, and extended that advantage to 66-3 in the fourth quarter. Alabama has now scored 59 points or more in consecutive games for the first time since 1945. Through the first eight quarters of SEC play, Alabama is outscoring its conference brethren 132-3. Again, 132-3.

Rutgers misses sad field goal in Ohio State shutout

Whatever is ailing you, chances are playing Rutgers is going to fix it. That's a tough beat for the Scarlet Knights, but that's what happened in Ohio State's 56-0 shutout. Making matters worse, Rutgers missed a 32-yard field goal with 42 seconds remaining after driving 60 yards on 13 plays. The Buckeyes had 628 yards of offense, including 342 through the air with more downfield passing.

Troy upsets LSU 24-21 in Tiger Stadium

It isn't October yet, but we may have our biggest upset of the year.Troy went  into Tiger Stadium on Saturday night and beat No. 25 LSU 24-21. The Trojans were 20.5-point underdogs, and no team from outside the SEC had come into Tiger Stadium and beat LSU since UAB did it in 2000. It was a 49-game win streak LSU had at home against nonconference opponents, and it's over now. And, let's be clear, this was not a fluke. Troy led the entire game. It took a 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game and had a 17-0 lead in the third quarter. It withstood a late charge by the Tigers to pull off the biggest win in program history.

Florida State gets a hero play to beat Wake Forest

The 0-2 Seminoles desperately needed to get a win at Wake Forest. And you know what they say: A desperate team is a dangerous team. The 40-yard go-ahead touchdown pass from James Blackman  to Auden Tate in the final minute gave the Seminoles their first win of the season, 26-19. Florida State didn't play great -- the offensive line had a hard time blocking and there were negative plays by the bunches -- but that was a great win. Wake looks like a legit team and that was a hard-fought road victory.

The Seminoles were able to overcome a slow start that led to a tight contest. A penalty brought back a huge Derwin James kickoff return early in the game and that set the tone for the type of game Florida State was about to play. Following a sack on quarterback Blackman, coach Jimbo Fisher was visibly upset at his team on the sidelines.

Penn State gets a big win thanks to Saquon Barkley

The human highlight reel known as Saquon Barkley came up huge in Penn State's 45-14 win over Indiana. Barkley took the opening kickoff back 98 yards for a touchdown and the Nittany Lions never looked back. Though Barkley did not have another touchdown on the day rushing or receiving, he recorded 205 all-purpose yards and threw a 16-yard touchdown pass.

Georgia stomps Tennessee in an embarrassing loss for Butch Jones

Will Jones be Tennessee's coach come Monday? It's a legitimate question after the Vols lost 41-0 at home to the Bulldogs. Buyouts are always a question this time of year, but the mood in Neyland Stadium was that of a fan base ready for change. The Vols had four turnovers and were dominated at the line of scrimmage. This isn't a team that's still getting better under Jones; they're getting worse.

Bryce Love is the king of long TD runs

That was Stanford running back Bryce Love breaking free for a 61-yard touchdown run against Arizona State on the second play of the game. It's impressive, but it's also routine for Love at this point. That 61-yard touchdown means that Love has now rushed for a touchdown of 50 yards or greater in seven straight games. He also has a single-game record for rushing yards. You can probably consider him to be a big-play threat.

Wisconsin pulls away from Northwestern in second half

As it has done often this season, Wisconsin asserted itself in the second half during a 33-24 win over Northwestern. The Badgers outscored the Wildcats 26-14 in the second half. However, it did mark the first time Wisconsin gave up second-half points this year. The Badgers had a tough time protecting quarterback Alex Hornibrook in the first half but completely dominated in the trenches in the final 30 minutes. The Wisconsin defense especially stepped up in getting pressure on Northwestern quarterback Clayton Thorson.

Florida ties national scoring record -- really

As with everything else with Florida, the 38-24 win over Vanderbilt wasn't pretty. But it was full of excitement -- strangely enough given these two defenses -- and a couple of momentum swings. Ultimately, though, the Gators leaned on the ground attack to score five rushing touchdowns for the first time since 2003 in their victory. It was not all good news for Florida though as, after Saturday's game, coach Jim McElwain announced that quarterback Luke Del Rio was done for the year after suffering an apparent shoulder injury. As Florida was able to put points on the board Saturday, it tied a national college football record by scoring for the 365th consecutive game, a mark previously held only by Michigan, which set it from 1984-2004. UF will be able to break the record next week against LSU.

South Florida's pulls away from East Carolina in second half

It was never in doubt that USF was going to beat ECU, but it was close enough to merit attention for a while. The Pirates were able to keep up with the Bulls offensively until USF locked down in the second half for a 61-31 win. When you think of South Florida, typically, the first name that comes to mind is quarterback Quinten Flowers. For good reason, of course, Flowers is the centerpiece of one of the most dangerous offenses in the country. But quietly, first-year coach Charlie Strong has developed the Bulls into one of the most opportunistic defenses in the country. They entered the weekend leading the nation with 12 interceptions and made lucky No. 13 count against ECU.
