We're only a week away from Thanksgiving when waistlines across the country will be expanding as we gorge ourselves on turkey, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, pumpkin pie and just about everything within arm's reach. Maybe that's why the college football schedule is so light this week.
College football -- and the SEC in particular -- wants you to save some room for next week when you'll be chewing your way into a food coma.
BREAKFAST
#10 Florida State at Maryland -- ESPNU, noon
This one should be a blowout as Maryland might have actually had members of the band doing double-duty on the scout team during practice this week. Hell, three more Terps were probably lost for the season while you were reading this sentence.
Iowa at #23 Michigan -- ESPN, noon
Will Denard Robinson start or will it be Devin Gardner? Odds are it's not going to matter much because Iowa has been just about as awful as awful can be for the last month.
Indiana at Penn State -- Big Ten Network, noon
Tune in to see if Indiana can keep its opponents under 500 yards rushing this week. Spoiler alert: The Hoosiers will, but only because Penn State will opt to throw for 500 instead.
Temple at Army -- CBS Sports Network, noon
It might not be a sexy game, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's the most interesting contest of this early slate.
Washington at Colorado -- FX, 1:30 p.m.
Colorado has been so bad this year that it's almost worth tuning in every week just to see how poorly they'll play this time -almost.
LUNCH
#21 USC at #17 UCLA -- Fox, 3:05 p.m.
Finally, a game that is worth your time. USC has dominated this rivalry in recent years, but this is the best UCLA team the Bruins have had in a while. The winner of this game will be playing for the Pac-12 title, so not only does it bring that rivalry value, but it's also a sort of Pac-12 semifinal.
Ole Miss at #8 LSU -- CBS, 3:30 p.m.
Thankfully not everybody in the SEC is taking a break this week -- and that's not a knock on the SEC, so relax, SEC fan, and put a shirt on for heaven's sake. This game has the potential to surprise. Ole Miss is an improved team this season, and if LSU makes a mistake or two we could have an upset on our hands.
North Carolina State at #11 Clemson -- ABC/ESPN2, 3:30 p.m.
Hey, North Carolina State upset Florida State earlier this season, so you can't dismiss it this weekend. Of course, that win was in Raleigh, and this game will be in Death Valley.
Duke at Georgia Tech -- ESPNU, 3:30 p.m.
This game is actually important in the ACC's Coastal Division. So important that the winner will take the division lead. Yes, that's right, Duke could be in first place of the Coastal Division in late November. The Mayans were right. We've barely got a month left.
#6 Ohio State at Wisconsin -- ABC/ESPN2, 3:30 p.m.
While Ohio State can't play in the postseason, it can win the Leaders Division. A win against Wisconsin would clinch it. Oh, and there's also the matter of that recruiting flare-up between Urban Meyer and Bret Bielema during the offseason simmering beneath the surface of this one. This game could prove to get personal.
Wake Forest at #3 Notre Dame -- NBC, 3:30 p.m.
If Notre Dame wants any chance to pass Oregon or Kansas State in the rankings without one of them losing first it has to blow out Wake Forest this week. Even that probably won't be enough.
DINNER
#13 Oklahoma at West Virginia -- Fox 7 p.m.
West Virginia's season has been in a tailspin for a month, but an upset win over Oklahoma would make the season a bit more tolerable for the Mountaineers. This game could prove to be quite the entertaining shootout.
Syracuse at Missouri -- ESPNU, 7 p.m.
I'd like to nominate this as the oddest November nonconference matchup of all time. Is it a journalism rivalry game or something?
Tennessee at Vanderbilt -- ESPN2, 7 p.m.
I'm not sure there's anything Derek Dooley can do to save himself this year, but I do know that losing to Vanderbilt sure wouldn't be it.
#2 Kansas State at Baylor -- ESPN, 8 p.m.
This week Kansas State faces a Baylor team that's proven it can put up points against just about everybody. Which means that while Kansas State is certainly the favorite here in Waco, an upset wouldn't be the craziest thing that's ever happened.
#14 Stanford at #1 Oregon -- ABC, 8 p.m.
This is the other Pac-12 semifinal taking place this weekend. Stanford is a good team, but is it good enough to knock off Oregon? Vegas certainly doesn't think so, as the Ducks are a 20 1/2-point favorite.
LATE NIGHT SNACK
Arizona at Utah -- ESPNU, 10 p.m.
If Utah wants to go bowling this season then it has to win this game. And to do that, it will have to stop an Arizona offense that has looked rather potent against anybody not named Oregon this season.
California at #15 Oregon State -- Pac-12 Network, 10:30 p.m.
Oregon State is coming off a loss to Stanford and will have Sean Mannion back under center this week. The good news for the Beavers is that they're facing a Cal team that's just a mess right now.
Brigham Young at San Jose State -- ESPN2, 10:30 p.m.
When you've got a chance to watch San Jose State and BYU playing some football at midnight, you've got to take it. Or you can just go to bed. It's your choice, really.
