There was a stretch this season when West Virginia dropped three straight games and five of six -- including home losses to Kansas and Kentucky, and a road loss at Iowa State. I don't know if anybody gave up on the Mountaineers, per se. But skeptics were certainly created.

They should be going away now, though.

Because West Virginia extended its winning streak to three games Monday with an 84-74 victory over Texas Tech that doubled as the Mountaineers' 11th top-50 KenPom win. Only Kansas has more. And when you consider that Bob Huggins' team has lost just twice to schools not expected to make the NCAA Tournament, you have to acknowledge West Virginia has a strong resume that should earn a terrific seed when the NCAA Tournament selection committee finalizes its bracket.

West Virginia moved from 17th to 11th in Tuesday morning's updated CBS Sports Top 25 (and one) -- which caused Wichita State, Clemson, Ohio State, Cincinnati and Tennessee to each drop one spot, no fault of their own. The Mountaineers close the regular season Saturday at Texas.
