Diakite totaled 10 points (2-5 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 6-6 FT), five rebounds, one assist and two steals in 23 minutes during Friday's 127-119 loss to the Hornets. In the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee), Khris Middleton (knee), Jrue Holiday (knee), Brook Lopez (back) and Donte DiVincenzo (hip), Diakite played a career-high 23 minutes. The rookie made the most of his run by scoring a career-high 10 points, with the majority of those (six) coming from a perfect night at the free-throw line. In his four years at Virginia, Diakite never shot above 78 percent from the charity stripe, but he did average 4.1 free-throw attempts per game his senior year, so it is nice to see that translating to the NBA.
Diakite (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) played five minutes off the bench Thursday in the Bucks' 134-101 win over the Knicks, finishing with two points (1-2 FG), two rebounds, two assists and one block. Diakite was available after he missed Milwaukee's final game before the All-Star break while he waited to clear the NBA's health and safety protocol following his call-up from the G League bubble in Orlando. The two-way rookie had been inactive for nearly the entire season, but he suited up Thursday and finally got the chance to make his NBA debut due to the blowout. Expect most of Diakite's minutes to come in garbage-time scenarios the rest of the season.
Diakite is listed as out for Thursday's game against the Grizzlies after being placed in the NBA's health and safety protocol. Diakite enters the protocol one day after the Bucks recalled him from the G League bubble in Orlando. The two-way rookie was unlikely to be active for Thursday's game even if he had been available, so his absence won't affect head coach Mike Budenholzer's rotation.
Diakite was recalled from the G League on Wednesday. The two-way signee hasn't appeared in an NBA game this season, but he's turned heads in 12 G League appearances, averaging 18.5 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.1 blocks and 2.1 assists. He's unlikely to make much of an impact for the Bucks right away, but it's possible he could work his way into the rotation on some nights as a depth piece behind Brook Lopez, Bobby Portis and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Diakite delivered 21 points (8-13 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 2-3 FT) and 12 rebounds across 29 minutes in Monday's win over Greensboro. Diakite continues to be one of the most productive players in the G League this season and has been a double-double machine, notching that feat in six straight contests. In fact, he has double-doubles in nine of his 12 games this season and is averaging 18.3 points with 10.2 rebounds per outing.
