Over the years, Boston College fans and Americans everywhere have celebrated Welles Crowther, known by many as "The Man with the Red Bandana," credited with saving at least a dozen people in the south tower of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001.
Crowther, a former Boston College lacrosse player, lost his life when the tower collapsed. He was wearing his signature red bandana on that day, and on Friday, the Eagles football team will wear it to honor him when they host Clemson under the lights in Chestnut Hill.

It will play into the program's celebration of Service Day, and the Crowther family will be on hand for the game. The athletic department is also giving out thousands of red bandanas to fans at the gates and Under Armour has designed apparel for the coaching staff that will feature the pattern.
