North Florida @ No. 20 Florida
Current Records: North Florida 2-8; Florida 6-2
What to Know
The #20 Florida Gators are 5-0 against the North Florida Ospreys since March of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success Wednesday. The Gators' homestand continues as they prepare to take on North Florida at 7 p.m. ET Dec. 8 at Stephen C. O'Connell Center. Neither Florida nor the Ospreys could muster much offensive firepower in their last games, so look to the defense to decide this one.
Florida entered their contest against the Texas Southern Tigers on Monday without any home losses -- but there's a first time for everything. The matchup between them was not particularly close, with Florida falling 69-54. If the result catches you off guard, it should: they were far and away the favorite. Guard Brandon McKissic put forth a good effort for the losing side as he had 15 points. McKissic hadn't helped his team much against the Oklahoma Sooners last Wednesday, so this was a nice turnaround for him. McKissic's points were the most he has had all season.
Meanwhile, there's no need to mince words: North Florida lost to the Florida Atlantic Owls on Sunday, and they lost bad. The score wound up at 76-41.
This next game looks promising for the Gators, who are favored by a full 25.5 points. Now might not be the best time to take Florida against the spread since they've let down bettors for the past two consecutive games.
The losses put Florida at 6-2 and North Florida at 2-8. Two numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: Florida ranks 28th in college basketball when it comes to steals per game, with 9.6 on average. Less enviably, the Ospreys have allowed their opponents an average of 8.8 steals per game, the 14th most in college basketball. In other words, they will need to work extra hard to take care of the ball.
