After last season's disjointed college football schedule disrupted the normal flow of the College Football Playoff Rankings release dates, the CFP announced a return to its 2019 structure on Friday. The CFP Selection Committee will release its first batch of rankings on Tuesday, Nov. 2 after Week 9 of the regular season with the final set of rankings set to be unveiled on Sunday, Dec. 5.
That means there will be five weeks of rankings releases -- all coming in November -- as the college football season builds toward its eighth year with a four-team format. The CFP Selection Committee plans to meet in person on Mondays and Tuesdays this season before revealing its rankings on ESPN.
This year's CFP semifinal games are the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl with the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Peach Bowl rounding out the New Year's Six slate. The winner of the Cotton Bowl and Orange Bowl will play for the the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 10 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

While there has been talk about potentially expanding the College Football Playoff as early as the 2023 season, progress on that front appears to have stalled amid the latest wave of conference realignment. That means we could be in for a few more years with the four-team format.
