  • Head was traded from the Rays to the Marlins on Sunday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations. Head made his major-league debut in late April of 2021 and split time between the big leagues and Triple-A Durham last year. The right-hander made 27 appearances (two starts) for the Rays and logged a 2.31 ERA and 0.86 WHIP in 35 innings. He should be in contention for a major-league roster spot with his new club this spring.

  • Head was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Head was called up Monday, and he struck out three in 2.2 scoreless innings across a pair of relief appearances. The right-hander earned the win against the Yankees on Friday but will head back to Durham after Chris Mazza was recalled Saturday.

  • Head (2-0) earned the win Friday over the Yankees. He allowed just one hit and struck out two in 2.1 scoreless innings. Head worked in the fifth and sixth innings before leaving with one out in the seventh in a game the Rays never trailed. The 31-year-old has been solid in a multi-inning role with a 2.31 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 32:9 K:BB across 35 innings this year. He hasn't allowed a run in his last 9.1 innings since the start of September.

  • Head was recalled by the Rays on Monday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. Head has bounced on and off the major-league roster all season and is about to embark on his remarkable 12th separate stint on the roster. Such is the life of a reliever with options, as his 2.51 ERA through 32.1 innings certainly doesn't merit constant demotions. He'll likely fill a low-leverage role during his time on the roster, which may not even last until the end of the week considering how his season has gone thus far.

  • Head was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Sunday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. Head has been sent back and forth between the majors and minors all season, and another roster move will be added to the tally Sunday. The 31-year-old has been effective for the Rays despite the constant movement with a 2.51 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 29:9 K:BB in 32.1 innings.
