Johnson signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Johnson, 28, spent split the 2023 season between Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A El Paso in the Padres organization, collecting an .817 OPS with 19 home runs and 30 stolen bases. He's capable of handling all three outfield spots and last saw action in the majors in 2021.... See More ... See Less

Padres' Daniel Johnson: Signs with Padres
The Padres signed Johnson to a minor-league contract Thursday. The outfielder spent time in the Guardians, Mets and Nationals' organizations in 2022. Posting a sub-.600 OPS with each team's Triple-A club, Johnson showed little to suggest he belongs on an MLB roster this season, no less the talented Padres'. He figures to begin his age-27 season either at the Double-A or Triple-A level.... See More ... See Less -
Nationals' Daniel Johnson: Rejoins Nationals on MiLB deal
Johnson signed a minor-league contract with the Nationals on Friday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports. Johnson was traded from the Guardians to the Mets in late May, and he spent nearly a month on the injured list between June and July. He was let go by the Mets a few days after being reinstated from the IL, but he'll find a new landing spot with the Nationals, the organization that drafted him in 2016. Over 31 games at the Triple-A level this year, Johnson has hit just .188 with four home runs, 17 RBI, 10 runs and a steal.... See More ... See Less -
Mets' Daniel Johnson: Traded to Mets
Johnson was traded from the Guardians to the Mets in exchange for cash considerations Wednesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Johnson appeared in 17 games at Triple-A Columbus to begin the year, and he hit .217 with three home runs, 11 RBI, six runs and a stolen base. The 26-year-old has played in 35 major-league games over the last two seasons and will attempt to carve out a role at Triple-A Syracuse.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Daniel Johnson: Activated Friday
Johnson (quadriceps) has been activated from Triple-A Columbus' injured list. Johnson will be able to get back into action at Columbus. He's looking to improve upon a slow start to the season -- he hit .242/.242/.419 with three home runs, 11 RBI, six runs scored and a stolen base in his first 15 games before the injury.... Guardians' Daniel Johnson: Placed on injured list
Johnson was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list Saturday. Although Johnson was initially believed to be dealing with a hip strain after leaving Thursday's game at Triple-A Columbus, he'll be forced to miss at least a week after being diagnosed with a quad injury. It's not yet clear whether he'll be able to return after a minimal stay on the IL.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Daniel Johnson: Dealing with hip strain
Johnson (hip) was injured Thursday while playing with Triple-A Columbus. Johnson went 5-for-10 in his previous two games, but he was hurt against Louisville in Thursday's contest. A timeline for his return to play hasn't been announced.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Daniel Johnson: Left off Opening Day roster
The Guardians reassigned Johnson to minor-league camp Tuesday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Johnson had been attending big-league camp as a non-roster invitee after the Guardians outrighted him to Triple-A Columbus in November. He saw action in 30 games with Cleveland in 2021 and hit .221 with four home runs and a stolen base while striking out in 27 of his 81 plate appearances (33.3 percent).... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Daniel Johnson: Clears waivers
The Guardians outrighted Johnson to Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday. Though Johnson was once a prospect of some repute, his underwhelming body of work across various stints in the big leagues the past two seasons likely played a factor in him going unclaimed off waivers after he was recently booted off the Guardians' 40-man roster. He'll thus remain in Cleveland's organization heading into 2022, but his lack of a 40-man spot could make it difficult for him to resurface at the big-league level. The lefty-hitting outfielder owns a .202/.245/.337 slash line (52 wRC+) across 94 career plate appearances with Cleveland.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Daniel Johnson: Loses spot on 40-man roster
Johnson was designated for assignment by the Guardians on Friday. Johnson appeared in 30 major-league games last year and hit .221 with four homers, nine runs, five RBI and a stolen base. However, he spent the final few weeks of the season in the minors and will now lose his spot on the 40-man roster.... See More ... See Less -
Indians' Daniel Johnson: Sent to Triple-A
Johnson was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Saturday. Johnson has played in only five games in September, going 1-for-11 with a walk, a run scored and four strikeouts. He'll be able to get more consistent at-bats with Columbus.... See More ... See Less -
Indians' Daniel Johnson: Takes seat in Ramirez's return
Johnson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals. Johnson will head to the bench after he went hitless in seven at-bats while starting in each of the past three games. Though he recently appeared to have leapfrogged Oscar Mercado on Cleveland's depth chart in left field, Johnson's path to regular at-bats versus right-handed pitching may be blocked after Harold Ramirez (knee) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.... Indians' Daniel Johnson: Playing time picking up
Johnson will start in left field and bat eighth Sunday against the Red Sox. Included in the starting nine for the third time in four games, Johnson may have usurped the struggling Oscar Mercado as Cleveland's primary option in left field. The lefty-hitting Johnson will still likely find himself on the bench frequently against left-handed pitching, with the righty-hitting Mercado serving as a short-side platoon mate.... See More ... Indians' Daniel Johnson: Homers in win
Johnson went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and a single in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Twins. In his first game back with the big club since being recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Monday, Johnson took Twins starter Bailey Ober deep in the fifth inning to give Cleveland a 2-0 lead. He later tacked on a base hit. Cleveland's acquisition of Myles Straw slashed Johnson's playing time.... See More ... See Less -
Indians' Daniel Johnson: Recalled by Cleveland
Johnson was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Monday, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports. Johnson spent two weeks in the minors and hit .250 with a home run, a triple, two doubles, seven RBI and four runs since being sent down. He'll return to the major-league roster after Logan Allen was optioned to Triple-A.... See More ... See Less -
Indians' Daniel Johnson: Records steal Friday
Johnson went 1-for-2 with a stolen base in Friday's 6-4 loss to the White Sox. The 26-year-old snapped his 0-for-6 skid at the plate with the hit, and he recorded his first steal of the year on his first attempt. Johnson owns a .205/.222/.341 slash line with two home runs, two RBI and four runs scored in 45 plate appearances. Cleveland shipped out Eddie Rosario (abdomen) and Jordan Luplow at the trade deadline, but the team's acquisition of Myles Straw will likely keep Johnson in a platoon role at best.... See More ... Indians' Daniel Johnson: Takes seat versus lefty
Johnson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cardinals. With southpaw Kwang Hyun Kim on the hill for St. Louis, the lefty-hitting Johnson will give way to platoon mate Oscar Mercado in the series finale. Since his July 7 call-up, Johnson hasn't made a compelling case to stick around long-term as a mainstay in the lineup. He's slashing .242/.265/.424 through 14 games this month.... See More ... Indians' Daniel Johnson: Sitting against lefty
Johnson is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rays. Johnson appears to have settled into the strong side of a platoon with Oscar Mercado in right field while Cleveland awaits Eddie Rosario's (abdomen) return from the injured list. The lefty-hitting Johnson will take a seat in the series finale with southpaw Ryan Yarbrough on the bump for Tampa Bay.... See More ... See Less -
Indians' Daniel Johnson: Homers as pinch hitter
Johnson hit a solo home run in his only at-bat during Friday's 10-5 loss to Tampa Bay. Johnson went deep in the bottom of the ninth inning when he pinch hit for catcher Austin Hedges. It's the second homer of the year for Johnson. The outfielder has added a .222/.243/.389 slash line with two RBI and four runs scored through 37 plate appearances. He's likely to remain in a bench role, with Harold Ramirez, Oscar Mercado and Bradley Zimmer (illness) seeing most of the playing time in the outfield with Eddie Rosario (abdomen) out.... See More ... See Less -
Indians' Daniel Johnson: Sits after four straight starts
Johnson is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros. Johnson will take a seat after he started in right field in each of the past four games, going 5-for-14 with a solo home run and a walk over that span. He'll likely be competing for one spot in the Cleveland outfield with Oscar Mercado in most games while Eddie Rosario (abdomen) is on the shelf.... See More ... See Less
