New Jersey sportsbooks are no longer allowing bets to be placed on Ukrainian table tennis. According to ESPN, the Sports Wagering Integrity Monitoring Association informed New Jersey regulators on July 7 of concerns that the sport's matches may be fixed. The notice urged sportsbooks to halt all betting involving any matches in Ukraine or ones involving Liliia Zaitseva, Ivan Gaysin, Karen Dzhanibekyan, Eduard Panichev, Anastasia Efimova and Gleb Zotov.
"While there is not yet any evidence that any match fixing occurred in New Jersey, due the nature of the alert, the Division is suspending approval for wagering on all table tennis events in the Ukraine, including but not limited to the Setka Cup, WIN Cup, and TT Cup," the notice read.
In late March, the Ukrainian Table Tennis Federation disqualified 365 players for competing in Setka Cup matches during the pandemic.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic shut down majority of sports in March, gambling on table tennis has increased heavily. Fans in the United States have been able to bet on it throughout the pandemic. One bettor hit on a 10-leg table tennis parlay through William Hill Sportsbook in May and won nearly $25K
In addition to New Jersey, the Indiana Gaming Commission also halted betting on table tennis unless they were sanctioned by the sport, according to ESPN.
