  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Placed on 60-day IL

Daniel was placed on the 60-day injured list by the Angels on Thursday due to a right shoulder strain, Rhett Bollinger of reports. This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for left-hander Matt Moore, whose one-year, $7.55 million deal with the Angels is now official. Daniel posted a 4.49 ERA and 83:32 K:BB over 102.1 innings last season at Triple-A Salt Lake and won't be much of a factor in the early part of the 2023 campaign.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Returns to Triple-A

Daniel was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake following Sunday's game against the Mets. Daniel failed to make his big-league debut during his brief stint with the Angels, which lasted all of two days. The club has yet to make a corresponding move.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Contract selected

Daniel's contract was selected by the Angels on Saturday. Daniel doesn't come with a ton of prospect pedigree, as he was the 211th overall pick in the 2019 draft and looks like a back-end starter at best according to his scouting reports. He recorded a 3.64 ERA in nine starts for Triple-A Salt Lake this season, though that came with a modest 19.3 percent strikeout rate. He's pitched almost exclusively as a starter in the minors, but it looks like he'll be a reliever for now, as the Angels don't have a hole in their rotation at the moment.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Sent back to minor-league camp

The Angels reassigned Daniel to their minor-league camp Monday. Though he netted an invitation for big-league camp, Daniel wasn't a realistic candidate to break camp with the Angels with a number of other pitchers ahead of him in the pecking order for back-end spots in the club's six-man rotation. Still, Daniel will be a pitcher worth tracking as he likely heads back to Triple-A Salt Lake to begin 2022. Though his initial taste of the Triple-A level didn't go well last season -- he gave up 24 earned runs on 37 hits (including seven home runs) over 21 innings -- the 24-year-old righty was dominant for Double-A Rocket City (2.68 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 66:8 K:BB in 47 frames) prior to his promotion to Salt Lake.

  • Angels' Davis Daniel: Invited to big-league camp

Daniel will serve as a non-roster invitee during spring training in 2022. Daniel advanced to Triple-A Salt Lake in 2021, but he faced some struggles against the improved competition and unforgiving ballparks of Triple-A West. The right-hander made five appearances (four starts) and posted a 10.29 ERA and 2.05 WHIP in 21 innings. He'll now have a chance to develop with the big-league coaching staff this spring and will likely be in the mix to make his major-league debut at some point in 2022 as long as he can display improved results with the Bees.
