A wide-open and evenly-balanced field of 13 three-year-old fillies will try to win a Grade 2 stakes race for the first time when the starting gate opens in the 2022 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes on Friday at Pimlico Race Course. The Sean McCarthy-trained Adare Manor, who was considered one of the country's top three-year-old fillies in February before finishing second in the Santa Anita Oaks, is the 5-2 favorite in the 2022 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes odds. The Maryland-bred Luna Belle, who has won five straight stakes races, all in Maryland, is 9-2 in the 2022 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes field. Three other fillies are 8-1 or shorter. The other eight 2022 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes horses are between 12-1 and 20-1.
Post time for the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes 2022 is 5:44 p.m. ET. With an accomplished field set to enter the starting gate on Friday, you'll want to see what racing insider and Beyer Speed Figure maker Bob Weir has to say before making any Black-Eyed Susan Stakes picks of your own.
A Saratoga Springs-based racing insider and Beyer Speed Figure maker, Weir is a two-time qualifier for the prestigious National Horseplayers Championship in Las Vegas. He has produced multiple five-figure days at the track over the years, including a $60,000 Pick 6 at Del Mar in 2014. Last year, he was on fire. He hit the exacta in the Sam F. Davis Stakes, Tampa Bay Derby and Peter Pan Stakes, the trifecta in the Risen Star Stakes, Blue Grass Stakes and Pennsylvania Derby and the superfecta in the Belmont Stakes.
This year, he has been red-hot in the Triple Crown prep races, hitting the superfecta in the Blue Grass Stakes, the trifecta in the Louisiana Derby and exactas in the Fountain of Youth Stakes and Tampa Bay Derby. He also has hit the $40 winner of the Man o' War Stakes, the trifecta in the Pegasus World Cup and multiple Pick 4s, including Saturday's at Belmont for $1,851. Anyone who has followed him is way up.
Now, he has handicapped the 2022 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes lineup, made his picks and constructed his bets. You can only see them here.
Top 2022 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes predictions, bets
One shocker: Weir is fading Adare Manor, even though she is the 5-2 morning-line favorite. A daughter of star stallion Uncle Mo, Adare Manor won her first two starts of 2022 when she was trained by Hall of Famer Bob Baffert. Then, she was transferred to trainer Tim Yakteen and finished second in the Santa Anita Oaks, earning a Beyer Speed Figure (87) that was well shy of the figures (both 94) from her two wins under Baffert.
Adare Manor, who is now trained by Sean McCarthy, likes to set the early pace, but she may face pressure up front with at least two other speed horses in the race. "She will be challenged again early on Friday, and I think she's vulnerable as the likely favorite," Weir told SportsLine.
How to make 2022 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes picks
Weir's top pick is an underdog who will benefit from a "good pace" in a "large field." He also is high on a double-digit long shot who "could be running late," sending you straight to the pay window. Weir is including these horses in his 2022 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes bets, and so should you. He's only sharing which horses to back and fade at SportsLine.
So who wins the Black-Eyed Susan 2022? What double-digit long shot is a must-back? And how has Weir constructed his wagers? Check out the latest Black-Eyed Susan Stakes odds below, then visit SportsLine to see Weir's picks for the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes, and find out.
