New Jersey sportsbooks have set a new United States record with $1.3 billion in wagers being taken in during the month of October. That broke the previous record of $1.01 billion, which was set in September 2021.
According to state data that was released on Wednesday, October's sports betting saw a 62 percent year-over-year increase from the $803.1 million that was reported in October 2020.
In addition, New Jersey sportsbooks generated $84.2 million in revenue in October, according to New Jersey's Division of Gaming Enforcement. Nearly $77 million of that amount came via mobile sports betting revenue.
One of the biggest reasons for the new record was due to sports bettors placing wagers on college football and the NFL. According to the Division of Gaming Enforcement, $499 million was wagered on football last month after there was $400.8 million bet on football in September.
The start of the 2021-22 NBA season also accounted for $156.9 million when it came to New Jersey sportsbooks.
In 2021, an estimated $8.45 billion was been legally bet on sports in New Jersey. That has resulted in $641.9 million in revenue for sportsbooks located in the Garden State.
