  • Falcons' Zion Logue: Going to Atlanta

The Falcons selected Logue in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 197th overall.

Atlanta has added three pieces along the defensive front over the past two days of the 2024 NFL Draft, but Logue, out of Georgia, appears to be a true nose tackle based on sheer size (6-foot-5, 314 pounds). Given the Falcons have a number of veterans at the position already, it'll be interesting to see if Logue can crack the 53-man roster this season.

  • Falcons' Jase McClellan: Curious fit in Atlanta

The Falcons selected McClellan in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 186th overall.

Like many Alabama backs, McClellan had to wait his turn before becoming the lead runner. He got the chance in 2023 and averaged 4.9 yards per carry, illustrating a relative lack of explosiveness. McClellan's draft stock took another hit as he ended the season with a foot injury, which prevented him from working out at either the NFL Combine or Alabama's Pro Day. He also isn't likely to see the field much in the short term with Atlanta, as the team already boasts Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier as options in the backfield.

  • Falcons' Casey Washington: Lands with Atlanta in Round 6

The Falcons selected Washington in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 187th overall.

Atlanta double-dipped on skill position depth in the sixth round, taking Alabama running back Jase McClellan and Illinois' Washington with back-to-back picks. Washington was not a lock to be drafted and did not receive a combine invite. An older prospect at 23 years old, he did not have a receiving touchdown until his fifth year in college. At his pro day, he ran a 4.46 in the 40 and had a strong 39.5-inch vertical jump. Washington does not have an obvious top-end trait that would portend a starting role in the NFL.

  • Falcons' JD Bertrand: Heads home to Atlanta

The Falcons selected Bertrand in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 143rd overall.

A metro Atlanta native, Bertrand comes home to the Falcons after spending his college career at Notre Dame. Bertrand led the Irish in tackles each of his last three seasons, topping out at 101 in 2021. A foot injury prevented him from testing during the pre-draft process, but the film shows him to be an instinctive 'backer and sure tackler. He has some thump at 235 pounds but has been knocked for short arms (30.63-inches), which raise questions about his ability to shed blocks and find the ball carrier. Kaden Elliss and Troy Andersen block Bertrand's path to starting, so special teams may be his quickest route to the field early in his career.

  • Falcons' Brandon Dorlus: Another pass rusher for Atlanta

The Falcons selected Dorlus in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 109th overall.

Dorlus led Oregon in sacks last season with 5.0 and had at least one sack in all five collegiate seasons with the Ducks. A multi-time first-team All-Pac-12 pass rusher, Dorlus brings a ton of positional flexibility to an Atlanta defensive line that has routinely struggled to generate pressure without blitzing in recent years.

  • Falcons' Bralen Trice: Atlanta selects in round three

The Falcons selected Trice in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 74th overall.

Trice evidently played at over 270 pounds for Washington, where he was the team's leading pass rusher the last two years, but he slimmed down to just 245 before the combine, presumably with the hopes of running faster. To run just a 4.72-second 40 at that weight is a pretty big disappointment, as it raises the concern that Trice would run something more like a 4.9-second 40 at his real playing weight. Trice seems skilled as an edge rusher and certainly has the motor, but his tools grade is not that of a starter and puts a lot of pressure on his technique development.

  • Falcons' Ruke Orhorhoro: Onward to the ATL

The Falcons selected Orhorhohro in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 35th overall.

The Falcons continue to surprise with their draft selections after taking quarterback Michael Penix with the eighth overall pick Thursday. Orhorhoro going ahead of fellow defensive tackles Johnny Newton and Kris Jenkins was unexpected. A five-year player at Clemson, Orhorhoro is on the lighter side for a defensive tackle at 294 pounds on a 6-foot-4 frame but tested well at the combine, highlighted by a 4.89-second 40-yard dash. He did not begin playing football until his junior year of high school, which quells some concern regarding his advanced age coming into the league as he's still getting experience under his belt. He projects to challenge for snaps at the left defensive end spot in the Falcons' 3-4 front.
