  • Vikings' Sam Darnold: Vikings won't rush to name starting QB

The Vikings could begin the season with Darnold as the team's starting quarterback despite taking J.J. McCarthy with the No. 10 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, ESPN reports. "We're not going to rush his development," said general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah. "We're just going to do what's best for the Vikings in the short and long term."

Darnold signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Vikings as a short-term veteran starter or backup. It's hard to handicap when McCarthy may take over the starting job this soon after the draft, but it's notable the Vikings are trying to reduce expectations. Expect the quarterback battle for the Week 1 starting job to commence this summer. Still, odds are Darnold will only be the starter for a few weeks at most if McCarthy is healthy and making progress.

  • Vikings' Trey Knox: Lands in Minnesota

Knox signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent Saturday.

After four years at Arkansas, Knox transferred to South Carolina for his fifth-year senior season. He compiled a 37-312-2 receiving line for the Gamecocks. He switched positions from wide receiver to tight end in 2021. Knox joins a tight end room that includes T.J. Hockenson, Josh Oliver, Johnny Mundt and Nick Muse in Minnesota.

  • Vikings' Jeshaun Jones: Signs with Minnesota as UDFA

Jones signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent Saturday.

Jones caught 100 balls for 1,347 yards and eight touchdowns across his final two seasons at Maryland but ultimately didn't hear his name called on draft weekend. He obviously faces an uphill battle to earn a spot on the Vikings' roster this upcoming season.

  • Vikings' Ty James: Finds work with Minnesota

James signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent Saturday.

A four-year contributor at Mercer, James finished his college career with a 171-3,364-30 receiving line, including back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in 2022 and 2023. James will look to catch the coaching staff's eyes in spring work in order to make it to training camp.

  • Vikings' Devron Harper: Signs with Minnesota

Harper signed with the Vikings as an undrafted free agent Saturday.

Harper (5-foot-8 and 160 pounds) was an electric return man at Mercer, bringing back three punts and one kickoff for touchdowns across three years. As a wideout, Harper amassed 159-1,929-13 through the air and 56-458-6 as a rusher. Special teams would likely be Harper's path to an NFL job as a rookie.

  • Vikings' Michael Jurgens: Lands with Minnesota

The Vikings selected Jurgens in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 230th overall.

Jurgens has a wealth of experience after starting 34 games at Wake Forest. He has the size to stick on an NFL roster, but he struggles to keep his base at the line of scrimmage and is not overly athletic. Jurgens will likely be appealing for a practice squad position due to his fundamentals.

  • Vikings' Levi Drake-Rodriguez: Seventh-round pick for Minnesota

The Vikings selected Drake-Rodriguez in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 232nd overall.

Drake-Rodriguez is pretty far off the prospect radar, but the TAMU-Commerce product caught the attention of the Vikings in the seventh round, presumably as a potential rotational defensive tackle. His 5.0-second pro-day 40 time implies slightly above average burst for a defensive tackle, but after playing at such a low level of competition, it's difficult to tell where Drake-Rodriguez's skill level might be.

  • Vikings' Will Reichard: Drafted by Minnesota

The Vikings selected Reichard in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 203rd overall.

Reichard is the NCAA's all-time leading points scorer (547). At Alabama, Reichard converted 274 of 275 extra points and had an 86 percent field goal success rate. Placekicking duties should be his in Minnesota.

  • Vikings' Walter Rouse: Joins Minnesota

The Vikings selected Rouse in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 177th overall.

The Vikings are woefully thin at tackle with just three on the active roster prior to Rouse's selection. The 23-year-old started four seasons for Stanford before transferring to Oklahoma as a fifth-year senior, ultimately earning Honorable Mention All-Big 12 honors. While Rouse has played only left tackle, it's possible the team views him as a swing tackle, provided he makes the final roster.

  • Vikings' Khyree Jackson: Scooped in Round 4 by Minnesota

The Vikings selected Jackson in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 108th overall.

Jackson (6-foot-4, 194 pounds) is a highly unusual cornerback prospect both due to his tall, lanky build as well as the strange, winding path his collegiate football career took to this point. Jackson played for Oregon in 2023 but spent his first two years out of high school out of football, only picking back up in the third year after getting a shot in the JUCO ranks. After two years there, Jackson got the attention of Alabama, where he was a backup for two years before finally transferring to Oregon. Now Jackson will be a 25-year-old rookie, and one that might require more development time all the same. If Jackson can fully channel his talent into developing more as a corner, he could prove to be effective in press coverage in particular, as his 32 and 3/4-inch arms make it easy to jab wideouts at the line of scrimmage.
