  • Patriots' Christian Barmore: Lands big extension in New England

New England signed Barmore to a four-year, $92 million extension Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.

The deal contains $41.8 million guaranteed, per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN. It's the largest non-Tom Brady contract handed out in Patriots history. A second-round pick in 2021, Barmore recorded a career-best 8.5 sacks last season after totaling just four across his first two years in the league. Barmore is a foundational piece along New England's defensive front.

  • Patriots' Jaheim Bell: Interesting pick for Pats

The Patriots selected Bell in the seventh round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 231st overall.

This is a pick that Bill Belichick would have made in New England. Bell is a very interesting prospect with a "tweener" type of frame, but legitimate athleticism that could get him on the field in a variety of ways. He began his career at South Carolina, where he played tight end but also had a role in the run game. From 2021 to 2022, Bell caught 55 of 73 targets for 728 yards and seven touchdowns while tallying 80 rushes for 301 yards and three scores. He transferred to Florida State and continued to produce as a pass catcher (39-503-2), but the 'Noles did not use him in the run game. At 6-foot-2 and 241, there's not a conventional role for him in an offense, so New England will have to get creative. Having 4.61 speed and a 124-inch broad jump will help his cause, however. Bell may be a seventh-round selection without a conventional role, but his tools and versatility should keep him on the radar in the later rounds of dynasty drafts.

  • Patriots' Joe Milton: Lands in New England

The Patriots selected Milton in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 193rd overall.

The Tennessee signal-caller predictably wowed folks with a bazooka of an arm during throwing drills at the NFL Scouting Combine and ran a respectable 4.62-second 40-yard dash time at 6-foot-5, 246 pounds, but he didn't carve out a full-time starting role until his sixth collegiate season in 2023. Even then, Milton failed to put up eye-popping stats in an offense in which Hendon Hooker had been a Heisman Trophy contender one year prior. Milton is the definition of a project at the quarterback position, and if he's unable to beat out Bailey Zappe for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart behind veteran Jacoby Brissett and first-round pick Drake Maye, Milton could be converted to tight end, where he might profile as an interesting prospect thanks to his size and athleticism.

  • Patriots' Marcellas Dial: New England lands in sixth round

The Patriots selected Dial in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 180th overall.

Dial didn't have much hype as a prospect but he's a three-year starter from a strong South Carolina pass defense, and at 6-feet, 190 pounds he has very good athletic traits. Dial's 4.47-second 40-yard dash is solid, but when you account for his reach (32-inch arms) and jumps (40.5-inch vertical, 129-inch broad jump), it's clear that Dial is one of the toolsiest corners in the draft. The Patriots will hope to refine those tools and presumably look to turn Dial into a press-heavy corner on the boundary.
