Week 9 brought us upsets and began thinning the herd at the top of the rankings, a process that will continue over the next month until we have the final four for the College Football Playoff set.

In Week 10, there will be more culling at the top with pretenders are separated from the contenders. Alabama and Ohio State both face difficult tests this week, with the Buckeyes hosting Nebraska and the Tide going on the road to face LSU. Those two games figure to be the most telling of the weekend, as we will find out just how much separation there is between the supposed national elite and those in the upper-middle class of the SEC and Big Ten.

No. 1 Alabama at No. 13 LSU (+7.5): The Tide are single-digit favorites for the first time this season as they head to Baton Rouge. The Tigers are getting respect from the oddsmakers for how well they've played under Ed Orgeron. Leonard Fournette will hope to have a better day at the office this Saturday than he did last year against Alabama, and for him to have success, the Tigers have to at least show the threat of the downfield passing attack.

No. 10 Nebraska at No. 6 Ohio State (-17.5): This is the second time this season we've seen a massive line on a top-10 matchup. The first time it was Texas A&M at Alabama -- the Tide pushed or covered depending on the line -- but this time the gap would seem to be much closer to the naked eye. Both teams have played Wisconsin on the road and both teams went to overtime -- Ohio State winning and Nebraska losing -- and coupled with Ohio State's recent struggles in conference play, this line is a bit confusing. The Huskers are a competitive team and it will take an extremely impressive showing from Ohio State to cover this number.

No. 11 Florida at Arkansas (+4.5): Florida's defense is absolutely spectacular. From front to back, this is a fantastic unit and one of the best nationally. The Gators' offense, however, leaves a lot to be desired. Luke Del Rio has his struggles pushing the ball down the field and the running game against quality opposition has been almost non-existent. Arkansas is coming off of a bye week and will want to get rid of the taste of that 56-3 loss to Auburn with a home upset of the Gators.

No. 5 Washington at California (+15.5): The Huskies are going to be plenty motivated for this game after finding themselves on the outside looking in for the College Football Playoff after the first rankings were released. Despite an undefeated record and a win over Utah on the road last week, one-loss Texas A&M was slotted into the No. 4 slot ahead of them. The Huskies might be looking for some extra style points this week, which could spell trouble for Cal.

No. 4 Texas A&M at Mississippi State (+13.5): Speaking of the Aggies, they will be on the road in conference this week as well. Texas A&M strolls down to Starkville to take on Mississippi State as nearly two-touchdown favorites. Being ranked fourth in the CFP rankings could be extra motivation for the Aggies to keep things rolling, or could make them complacent. Not many expect the Bulldogs to pull off an upset here -- this is a team that's lost to South Alabama and struggled with UMass and Samford this season -- but if the Aggies are sluggish, the Bulldogs could cover as home dogs.
