Payton (back) played 14 minutes off the bench in Tuesday's 102-86 win over the Pistons, finishing with five points (2-7 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 1-2 FT), four rebounds and one assist.
Tuesday's game marked one of the few times all season in which the Warriors had all of Payton, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole available. Unsurprisingly, Payton -- who was returning from a two-game absence -- finished fourth among those guards in minutes, and he only marginally inched out Damion Lee (12 minutes) for playing time. Thompson will likely sit out one half of back-to-back sets moving forward, but he should gradually ramp up his playing time, which will leave less opportunities available for Payton. Unless the Warriors lose one of their other key guards to a long-term injury, Payton will represent little more than a streaming option for steals, rebounds and field-goal percentage rather than a must-roster player in 12-team leagues.
