The Miami Marlins must have not watched their own Giancarlo Stanton take batting practice much, because it would've been pretty surprising if he didn't make a deep Home Run Derby run. As it happens, he won the event with a record 61 homers. And ... uh oh.
Yep, the Marlins sent out an email to people who have purchased tickets with them before and the fine print is where it gets them.
So Stanton hitting 61 means, yes, ticket prices have been slashed.
File this one under bittersweet for the Jeffrey Loria Administration.
UPDATE: The Marlins say they are capping the promotion at 25 percent with the exception of their July 29 game, which will feature a 61 percent discount. From the team's official site:
*The Fine Print: The offer will be for select future Marlins home games during the 2016 season (blackout dates may apply). Maximum discount of 25% off regular pricing. Limit of nine (9) tickets per transaction. Tickets are not valid for resale. Offer concludes at 11:59 PM on Tuesday, July 12. Limited inventory available.
UPDATE: Giancarlo did it! Given the historic and unprecedented nature of Giancarlo's 61 home run performance, we are preparing details for a special 61% off offer for our July 29th game, where we'll honor Big G's Home Run Derby victory. It's scheduled to go live on Wednesday. Stay tuned for more details! For now, here are the details for the 25% off offer: Enjoy discounted tickets to a select game of your choice. Choose the game of your choice and enter coupon code HRDERBY
It looks like the term "future Marlins tickets" gets the team off the hook here because they didn't specify which tickets. The original promotion never said all tickets. Still though, 25 percent is a nice discount, courtesy of Giancarlo Stanton.
