Tokyo 2020 features new sports and all the traditional competitions, but swimming and gymnastics will draw much of the attention in the coming days at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Team USA is starting to bring home some medals, and there are plenty of favorites who could add to the American haul in the swimming events. Katie Ledecky will try to beat Australian Ariarne Titmus in the women's 200-meter freestyle after falling just short in Sunday night's 400 free final. She also is the huge favorite in the women's 1,500-meter, while Team USA's Caeleb Dressel is the even-money favorite in the men's 100 free and Lilly King is the favorite in the women's 100-meter breaststroke.

William Hill Sportsbook lists Ledecky as the -1600 favorite (risk $1,600 to win $100) in the 1,500 freestyle in its latest 2020 Olympics odds. She is at +300 in the women's 200 freestyle behind Titmus (-350). Titmus surged to gold with the second-fastest time in the event's history -- behind Ledecky's world record from Rio 2016 -- while the American settled for bronze. King is a -120 favorite and Dressel is the +100 favorite in his 100-meter event. Also on tap at Tokyo 2020 are women's team gymnastics, USA women vs. Nigeria in basketball and USA vs. Japan in women's 3x3 hoops.

Before locking in any Tokyo Olympics 2020 picks or predictions, you need to see what SportsLine's Olympics expert, Mike Tierney, has to say

A national sportswriter whose work appears in The New York Times and Los Angeles Times, Tierney has covered nine Olympic Games in person. In the past two Olympic Games, his advice helped those who followed him cash in big, and he already has nailed a winner at Tokyo 2020.

Before Sunday's men's triathlon, Tierney tabbed Norway's Kristian Blummenfelt as his choice to win gold, and that bet paid off big at +600. The Olympics expert saw good value in the Norwegian, who had won twice this year and was the 2019 Grand Final champion.

"When an event is as wide open as the guys' three-in-one sport, look for a price and go with the hot hand." Tierney told SportsLine.

The 27-year-old Blummenfelt was in disbelief as he pulled away from the younger runners in the final stages to win by 11 seconds over Britain's Alex Yee. It is his nation's first medal in the sport, but picking a winner was nothing new for Tierney.

At the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics in 2018, he nailed Suzanne Schulting (+2500) of the Netherlands and Norway's Havard Lorentzen (+800) to triumph in speed skating and the USA's Mikaela Shiffrin (+185) to win the giant slalom. Tierney also took the Under (10.5) on the Americans' gold-medal count, and that also cashed as the USA came in with nine.

And at the Rio 2016 Summer Games, Tierney told readers to bet Over on Team USA's gold medal count (41.5) and Over on Team USA's overall medal count (102.5). The result? 46 golds, 121 medals and two easy cashes. Anyone who followed Tierney's advice cashed in huge.

Now, Tierney has studied the 2020 Olympics event schedule and is looking for the best betting values. You can see his top 2020 Olympics picks only at SportsLine.

Top 2020 Tokyo Olympics predictions

Shockingly, Tierney is fading Dressel, the American who has won the men's 100 freestyle event at the past two World Aquatic Championships. The 24-year-old also has three Olympic medals -- two in the 4x100 free and one in the 4x100 medley -- and won gold in the 100 free at the 2018 short-course FINA World Championships. However, he finished sixth at the 2016 Rio Games, and he has discussed in detail his difficulty dealing with pressure in the past.

Dressel could bring some confidence from his performance as Team USA won gold in the 4x100 freestyle Sunday night, but he will be on his own in this one. And if any doubts or anxiety creep in on the sport's biggest stage, there are plenty of swimmers in this elite field who can take advantage.

Six swimmers are listed at +1600 or better in that event, and Tierney sees big value in one of them. "Even-money on the versatile Team USA standout is unfounded," Tierney tells SportsLine.

How to make 2020 Tokyo Olympics picks

Tierney has locked in two best bets for Olympic action in the coming days. One is on a value pick he loves in the men's 100-meter freestyle swimming event, and another is on a team that returns more than 5-1 in a different sport. Head to SportsLine now to see Tierney's 2020 Olympics picks
