Draft Scouting Report

Rating: 70.12 (Chance to start)

Pro Comparison: Talanoa Hufanga

Strengths:

Sewell transferred from Nevada after the '18 season and is the brother of Penei Sewell. He's an undersized off-ball linebacker who can move -- he ran a 4.67 at the combine.Has speed, athleticism and twitch to blanket running backs in coverage, and can run down plays from the backside because of his speed. Despite his size (he weighed in at 226 during the combine), he consistently disengages from blocks of interior offensive linemen and put himself in position to make run stops. He's also good in space, showing solid open-field tackling ability.

Weaknesses:

He can sometimes get washed out of plays due to his size, but it didn't happen often. NFL teams will also have to figure out how much did playing alongside Devin Lloyd elevate his game. His NFL future could be a move to a hybrid safety role where he can exploit his speed and coverage skills without having to consistently take on offensive linemen.

Accolades:

  • Two-time All-Pac-12 honorable mention (2020, 2021)
  • Finished second on team in tackles in back-to-back seasons (only behind top LB prospect Devin Lloyd)
