What you need to know about the Trail Blazers

The Blazers didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup with the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, but they still walked away with a 136-131 win. Portland's shooting guard Anfernee Simons was on fire, shooting 9-for-16 from downtown and finishing with 43 points and seven assists.

With Damian Lillard (abdominal) and C.J. McCollum (lung) out, Simmons has the ability to step up as a scorer and he's proven throughout his career that he's capable of putting up big numbers in bursts. However, he'll need to do so more consistently and Jusuf Nurkic and Norman Powell will both need to elevate their games as scorers.

What you need to know about the Heat

Meanwhile, the Heat came up short against the Golden State Warriors on Monday, falling 115-108. Despite the defeat, Miami had strong showings from small forward Jimmy Butler, who had 22 points along with five boards, and small forward Caleb Martin, who had 19 points in addition to nine rebounds.

Unfortunately, Butler will miss Wednesday's matchup because of an ankle injury as he joins a long list of Heat players who are either injured or in health and safety protocols. Bam Adebayo (thumb), Duncan Robinson (COVID) and Gabe Vincent (COVID) will also be out and that means Tyler Herro will continue to carry a heavy scoring burden.
