Perhaps it's only fitting that one of the weirdest elections in U.S. history ends on a weird note -- and an actual note from Patriots coach Bill Belichick to the Republican nominee, Donald Trump.
During a speech in New Hampshire on Monday night, Trump not only announced that Patriots quarterback Tom Brady called him earlier in the day to say he voted for him, but the real-estate magnate also read a letter of support he received from Belichick.
"Congratulations on a tremendous campaign. You have dealt with an unbelievable slanted and negative media, and have come out beautifully - beautifully. You've proved to be the ultimate competitor and fighter. Your leadership is amazing. I have always had tremendous respect for you, but the toughness and perseverance you have displayed over the past year is remarkable. Hopefully tomorrow's election results will give the opportunity to make America great again. Best wishes for great results tomorrow.
- Bill"
The initial reaction, at least viewed through the Twitter prism: Skepticism. Partly because you'd imagine Belichick would be laser-focused on the Pats' next opponent and wouldn't have time to pen a letter, and partly because of Trump's predilection to stretch the truth. But on Tuesday morning, Belichick confirmed the letter and its veracity to CSNNE.com's Tom Curran.
So yes, it's real and it's spectacular.
