The model, which simulated every game on Monday's schedule more than 10,000 times, is taking the Rays (-145) to beat the Rangers in their series-opener at 8:05 p.m. ET (see tickets at StubHub). Tampa is an excellent team with a capable offense, strong starting pitching and a formidable bullpen. The Rangers, despite their big offseason additions, aren't on their level and tonight's starting pitchers are a big part of why the Rays should win. Tampa will start Drew Rasmussen, who enters with a 5-1 record and a 2.68 ERA. Rasmussen has been excellent at limiting contact and keeping the ball in the park.

Texas, meanwhile, will send Glenn Otto to the mound who is 2-2 and sports an unsightly 4.91 ERA. Otto issues far too many walks, something that the always-patient Rays lineup will take advantage of. Otto also has a home run problem, which doesn't mesh well with his propensity to give up free passes. He's precisely the kind of pitcher the Rays typically feast on.
