The New York Mets' Jacob deGrom makes his first major league start in almost 13 months when he squares off against the Washington Nationals on Tuesday in Washington, D.C. Because of right elbow inflammation and a stress reaction in his right scapula, deGrom has not pitched in the majors since July 7, 2021. On Tuesday he will face a Nationals team that dealt Juan Soto and Josh Bell to the Padres earlier in the day. New York is a -365 favorite in the latest Mets vs. Nationals odds from Caesars Sportsbook while Washington is a +285 underdog.

First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET from Nationals Park. The game is one of 16 on the MLB schedule for Tuesday. Elsewhere in the majors, last season's two ALCS combatants -- the Astros and Red Sox -- play the second game of their series in Houston, and the Dodgers' Trea Turner tries to extend his hitting streak to 20 games. Before making any MLB picks or parlays, be sure to check out the MLB predictions and betting advice from SportsLine's proven computer model.

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every MLB game 10,000 times, and it enters Week 18 on a 20-14 roll on top-rated MLB picks, returning almost $400 for $100 players. This is the same model that pegged the 2021 Atlanta Braves at 10-1 as one of three best bets to win it all last season. Anybody who has followed it has seen profitable returns.

Now, the model has locked in four confident MLB best bets for Tuesday. They all involve games at 7:05 p.m. ET or later, so there's still time to get these MLB picks in. If you successfully parlay the picks, you'd be looking at a payout of more than 19-1. You can see the model's MLB picks only at SportsLine

The model, which ran 10,000 simulations on each of Tuesday's games, likes Tampa Bay (+110) to beat Toronto. The Rays enter the game with the edge in starting pitching as Tampa Bay's Drew Rasmussen (6-3, 3.17 ERA) is 1-0 with a 2.75 ERA in his last four starts. Meanwhile, the Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman (7-8, 3.30) is coming off one of his worst starts of the season. On Wednesday he gave up five runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings in a loss to the Cardinals.

In addition, the Rays are a much better team at home than on the road. This season they are 32-20 at home versus 22-28 on the road. They face a Toronto team that is just 23-24 on the road.
