Back-to-back doubles in the first inning from Mookie Betts and Turner led to the Dodgers' opening run. That held up for the next seven frames as the only scoring before the Padres rallied in the ninth. During Betts' absence, Turner scorched the ball, batting .338 with an .891 OPS from the leadoff spot over 15 contests. He moved down to second in the order Sunday after regularly batting third prior to the roster shakeup. Turner went 2-for-5 with a stolen base, a run scored and three strikeouts in Friday's 5-1 win over the Padres.
Turner wasn't at his best at the plate, as this was his fifth multi-strikeout game in his last 13. He's also logged five multi-hit efforts in that span though, batting .317 (19-for-60) with three homers, three steals, nine RBI and 10 runs scored. The shortstop continues to be productive all around with a .306/.352/.485 slash line, 11 homers, 16 steals, 56 RBI and 42 runs scored through 76 contests overall. Turner went hitless in his first five at-bats, but he opened the 10th inning on second base as the designated runner and scored on Freddie Freeman's double. In the following frame, Turner came up with a two-out single that padded Los Angeles' lead to two runs, helping the team secure the win. Turner hasn't disappointed in his first full season with the Dodgers, posting a .317/.365/.496 slash line, 10 homers, 53 RBI, 40 runs and 15 thefts. Turner's single led to an error that allowed the Dodgers' third run to score in the seventh inning. He promptly stole second, but he was left on base. The shortstop extended his hitting streak to 12 games, a span in which he's gone 16-for-49 (.327), though he's struck out three times in each of his last two contests. He's now slashing .301/.352/.480 with nine home runs, 14 steals, 49 RBI, 33 runs scored, two triples and 15 doubles through 281 plate appearances. Turner used his speed to manufacture a run in the fifth inning, reaching on an infield single, promptly swiping second base and coming around to score on a Max Muncy double. The star shortstop also drew a much-discussed intentional walk on a 1-2 pitch in the sixth, and he was brought home when Muncy followed with a three-run homer.
