Tuesday occasions the unveiling of the almost-complete American League and National League All-Star rosters for 2016. In advance of this Baseball News Event, we're here to indulge in the fool's errand of predicting which players will be on said rosters. Will our quasi-informed guesses be correct? Of course not, people!

A reminder that our colleague, Jonah Keri, also picked his own rosters for the AL and NL a while back.

By way of reminder, here's how the tragi-comically swollen 34-man rosters for each league are assembled ...

  • Fans vote for nine AL starting position players and eight NL starting position players (the NL manager names his DH).
  • The 13-man pitching staffs are chosen by a combination of manager choice and a player's ballot.
  • Likewise, bench players are also chosen by a combination of manager choice and a player's ballot.
  • A final vote by fans determines the last player added to each roster.
  • Each team must be represented by at least one All-Star.

Now with those preconditions laid out like a pleasing taco bar, let us commence our soothsaying. Oh, one last thing in the service of preempting Internet Confusion, bolded and italicized for the time-pressed consumer: These are predictions of the All-Star rosters, not the actual All-Star rosters. Also bear in mind that these are predictions, not declarations of who deserves to be on the rosters. Now work dat scroll bar ...
