  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Back in action Friday

Bogaerts (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list and will start at second base Friday against Atlanta, AJ Cassavell of reports.

Bogaerts has been on the injured list since late May due to a fractured left shoulder, but will now return to the Padres' lineup following a six-game rehab assignment. The 31-year-old went 6-for-18 with an RBI and four runs scored between Single-A and Triple-A and figures to start in the field most days now that he's healthy, though he may sit down occasionally in order to ease him back into facing major-league pitchers.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: On track to return this weekend

Bogaerts (shoulder) is on track to be activated from the 10-day injured list Friday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Bogaerts began a rehab assignment last week with Triple-A El Paso, going 2-for-11 with a 4:4 K:BB in four games. He will continue his rehab with another game or two this week with Single-A Lake Elsinore before facing live pitching at Petco Park. Assuming all goes well, he'll then be back for the Padres' final series of the first half this weekend against Atlanta. Bogaerts has been sidelined since late May with a fractured left shoulder.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Plays field in rehab game

Bogaerts (shoulder) went 0-for-3 while playing second base in a rehab game with Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

After serving as the designated hitter in his first rehab contest Thursday, Bogaerts transitioned to second base in his second game Friday. He's gone 1-for-6 with a walk and two strikeouts over the pair of appearances. While there seems to be ample time for Bogaerts to ramp up and return to the Padres before the All-Star break, reports that manager Mike Shildt wouldn't commit to that Friday, saying "I wouldn't rule it out, but I wouldn't say, 'Yes.'"

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Begins rehab assignment

Bogaerts (shoulder) went 1-for-3 with a walk in his first rehab game with Triple-A El Paso on Thursday.

Bogaerts is expected to require 7-to-10 days on his rehab assignment, so he could be back just before the All-Star break if all goes well. The veteran infielder has been sidelined since late May with a fractured left shoulder.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: On verge of rehab assignment

Bogaerts (shoulder) could begin a rehab assignment within the next day or two, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union Tribune reports.

Bogaerts had a CT scan of his left shoulder Monday, the results of which indicated that he is ready to resume playing. Acee indicates that the infielder will likely head out on a rehab assignment with Triple-A El Paso in the coming days, and team officials have previously suggested that a rehab stint would last 7 to 10 days. Though manager Mike Shildt recently said that there is no timeline for Bogaerts' activation from the injured list, if all goes well moving forward, he could rejoin the Padres for their home series against Atlanta that begins July 12.

  • Padres' Xander Bogaerts: Takes batting practice Wednesday

Bogaerts (shoulder) took batting practice on the field Wednesday, AJ Cassavell of reports.

The Padres haven't divulged a potential timeline for Bogaerts' return from the 10-day injured list, but his ability to take on-field BP for the first time since suffering a fracture in his left shoulder in late May represents a major milestone in the recovery process. A clearer target date for Bogaerts' return could come into focus in the next few weeks once he resumes running and taking reps in the infield.
