• Blue Jays' Myles Straw: Breaks camp with big club

  Straw will be on the Blue Jays' Opening Day roster, Rosie DiManno of The Toronto Star reports. It's not a big surprise, but Toronto does have something of a logjam in the outfield with Daulton Varsho, George Springer, Addison Barger, Jesus Sanchez, Nathan Lukes and Straw all confirmed for the 26-man roster, and Davis Schneider still fighting for the final bench spot. Straw does offer a platoon option in center field for Varsho, but his main usage in 2026 will likely come as a pinch runner and late-inning defensive replacement. In 299 regular-season plate appearances last year, Straw slashed .262/.313/.367 with four homers, tying his career high, and 12 steals in 13 attempts.

• Blue Jays' Myles Straw: Shines in Saturday's loss

  Straw went 3-for-3 with a double in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Brewers. Getting a start in center field with Daulton Varsho (hand) sidelined, Straw not only had a perfect day at the plate, he make an impact on defense as well, robbing a home run from Jackson Chourio in the first inning in a game that was tied 1-1 until the ninth inning. Straw has been used mainly as a late-inning defensive replacement of late, but he's come through when called upon, batting .333 (14-for-42) in August with two doubles, two homers, three steals, seven RBI and 10 runs in 23 games.

  Straw went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, two steals and a run scored in Tuesday's win over the Pirates. Straw is now up to 11 steals for the season and he has six hits in his last three games, with three of those knocks going for extra bases. Straw's .263 average and .675 OPS are both his best marks since he played a career-high 158 games in 2021, but there's not a clear path to playing time with Daulton Varsho and now George Springer back in the fold in the outfield.

  Straw went 4-for-5 with two home runs, three runs scored and five RBI in Saturday's 14-2 rout of the Rangers. In his first career multi-homer performance, Straw took Patrick Corbin deep in the second inning for a three-run blast before connecting on a two-run shot in the third off Jon Gray. Straw doubled his home-run total on the season in the process, and he's now up to 10 long balls in 665 career big-league contests. With George Springer back from the IL, Straw will likely be limited to a short-side platoon role and late-inning defensive duties down the stretch. On the season, he's slashing .260/.303/.363 in 103 games with nine steals, 27 RBI and 39 runs.

  Straw went 3-for-4 with a double, a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 9-8 win over the Orioles. The ball was flying at Camden Yards, and Straw's two-run shot off Dean Kremer in the second inning flew comfortably over the left-field fence even though the light-hitting outfielder didn't think he'd gotten all of it as he left the batter's box. It was Straw's first multi-hit performance since June 26, and through 56 plate appearances in July he's slashing .229/.315/.375 with four doubles, one homer, two steals, six RBI and 11 runs. With Daulton Varsho (hamstring) poised to come off the IL this weekend, Straw's playing time will take a major hit, but he seems to have earned a key spot on the bench for the Blue Jays.

He got the start in center field while Nathan Lukes covered for Joey Loperfido (illness) in left. Straw's biggest asset is his speed, but he's collected just seven steals on eight attempts this year. The outfielder has added a .247/.292/.313 slash line with one home run, 16 RBI, 27 runs scored and eight doubles across 183 plate appearances. While he's holding onto a part-time role for now, there's no guarantee Straw will keep his spot in the majors once the Blue Jays' outfield gets Daulton Varsho (hamstring) and Anthony Santander (shoulder) back in the fold.
