  • Raiders' Matt Gay: Moving to Vegas

Gay is set to sign with the Raiders, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Gay began last season with Washington but was cut in mid-November after going 13-for-19 on field-goal tries. He then signed with San Francisco and went a perfect 8-for-8 on field-goal attempts, but he was just holding down the fort in the absence of Eddy Pineiro and was ultimately cut upon Pineiro's return. Gay's signing likely means that Daniel Carlson, who is an unrestricted free agent, won't return to Las Vegas after eight seasons with the franchise.

  • 49ers' Eddy Pineiro: Staying in San Francisco

Pineiro and the 49ers agreed to a four-year, $17 million contract Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Pineiro took over for beleaguered kicker Jake Moody in San Francisco in Week 2 of the 2025 campaign and ended up connecting on 28 of 29 field-goal attempts and 34 of 38 point-after tries in 14 regular-season games. Pineiro's mark of 8.4 points per contest ranked fifth among NFL placekickers with at least that many appearances, and the 30-year-old now is locked in as the 49ers' kicker through 2029.

Pineiro's two makes were good from 25 and 38 yards. Through 12 games this season, Pineiro is 27-for-28 on field goals and 28-for-32 on extra points. His 96 percent success rate on field goals leads the league.

  • 49ers' Eddy Pineiro: Full practice Wednesday

Pineiro (right hamstring) practiced in full Wednesday. Pineiro sat out the 49ers' last two games before a Week 14 bye due to a right hamstring injury, but when the team cut Matt Gay from its practice squad Tuesday, it signaled that the former was in line to return Week 15. With an uncapped practice under his belt, he'll resume placekicking duties Sunday against the Titans.

  • 49ers' Matt Gay: Returns to practice squad

The 49ers reverted Gay to their practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. With Eddy Pineiro missing the past two weeks due to a hamstring injury, Gay has stepped in and gone 4-for-4 on field goals as well as 4-for-4 on PATs. San Francisco is on bye Week 14 and Pineiro is trending toward active status when the team returns to action Week 15, so Gay's tenure as the club's kicker may have come to an end.

Pineiro (hamstring) is expected to return to action following the 49ers' bye week in Week 14, Matt Barrows of The Athletic reports. Gay converted both of his field-goal attempts and both extra-point tries in the 49ers' 26-8 win over the Browns on Sunday. Elevated from the practice squad for the second straight week after he was cut by the Commanders following Week 11, Gay is now a perfect four-for-four on field goals and four-for-four on extra points across two games with San Francisco. It's unclear if Eddy Pineiro (hamstring) will be ready to return to kicking duties when the Niners come out of their Week 14 bye.

  • 49ers' Eddy Pineiro: Logs another DNP

Pineiro (hamstring) was listed as a DNP on Thursday's practice report, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Pineiro continues to be sidelined by a hamstring injury, which caused him to miss the 49ers' Week 12 win against the Panthers. Friday's practice report will provide clarity on his status for Sunday's game against the Browns, but if Pineiro is not cleared to play, then Matt Gay would likely be elevated from the practice squad to the active roster for a second consecutive week.

  • 49ers' Eddy Pineiro: Begins Week 13 as non-participant

Pineiro (hamstring) will not participate in practice Wednesday, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. Pineiro did not practice in any capacity prior to being ruled out for Week 12, and there's no indication that his return to on-field reps is on the immediate horizon. He's reportedly considered week-to-week due to a Grade 1 hamstring strain suffered Week 11 against Arizona. Matt Gay made all four kicks (two field-goal tries and two PATs) in his team debut during Monday's win over the Panthers, and he could be elevated from the practice squad to draw another start if Pineiro remains sidelined Sunday on the road against Cleveland.

Gay did his part to contribute to the 49ers' win, knocking in field goals from 47 and 29 yards out while making both his PATs. Pineiro is considered week-to-week, so Gay could serve as San Francisco's kicker again next Sunday in Cleveland.

Pineiro (hamstring) has been ruled out for Monday's game against the Panthers, Cam Inman of The San Jose Mercury News reports. • 49ers' Eddy Pineiro: Viewed as week-to-week

Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Pineiro (hamstring) is considered week-to-week, David Lombardi of SFStandard.com reports. Pineiro has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 hamstring strain after he was injured in the third quarter of Sunday's win over the Cardinals. San Francisco doesn't currently employ another kicker on the active roster or practice squad, so the team will likely need to make a move at the position before next Monday night's game against the Panthers.

  • 49ers' Eddy Pineiro: Injures right hamstring

Pineiro (hamstring) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Cardinals, Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Pineiro appeared to injure his right hamstring while kicking a point-after try in the third quarter of Sunday's game. The 49ers don't have another kicker on the active roster, so Pineiro's absence would cause the 49ers' offense to go for two-point tries on touchdowns for the rest of the contest. He made all three of his field-goal attempts and went 2-for-4 on point-after tries prior to his injury.

  • 49ers' Eddy Pineiro: Connects on all four field goals

Pineiro made all four of his field-goal attempts and his lone extra-point try during the 49ers' 30-19 loss to the Buccaneers on Sunday. Three of Pineiro's four field goals came in the first half -- two of which were from 50-plus yards -- which helped keep the 49ers in striking distance heading into halftime. He connected on a 29-yard chip shot midway through the third quarter to cut the deficit to one point, but he wasn't brought out to kick after that, as the 49ers offense sputtered down the stretch. Pineiro has connected on four field goals in back-to-back games and is a perfect 15-for-15 across five regular-season contests. Pineiro and the 49ers will head back to San Francisco to host the Falcons on Sunday, Oct. 19.
