Jeff Ames: Cut loose by Twins
Ames was released by the Twins on Monday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
Ames spent the first half of the season with Double-A Pensacola, recording a 4.57 ERA in 41.1 innings. His 31.6 percent strikeout rate was strong, but it came with a 15.3 percent walk rate, and there's nothing particularly impressive about a 28-year-old easily handling Double-A competition.

Twins' Jeff Ames: Signs minors deal with Minnesota
Ames signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Tuesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
Ames is 27 years old and has yet to reach the majors, so this is very much an organizational depth signing. At the two highest levels of the minors last season in the Brewers' and Nationals' organizations, Ames posted a 4.74 ERA in 38 innings. He did strike out a good number of batters, posting a 29.7 percent strikeout rate, but his 13.3 percent walk rate holds him back from having a real major-league future.

Brewers' Jeff Ames: Signs minor-league deal with Brewers
Ames signed a minor-league contract with Milwaukee on Tuesday.
Ames was assigned to Triple-A Colorado Springs. The 27-year-old has never reached the majors and had a 5.70 ERA in 23.2 innings with Double-A Harrisburg earlier this season. He had a stellar 34.7 percent strikeout rate for Harrisburg, but his walk rate has sat above 10.2 percent at every stop since 2014.

Nationals' Jeff Ames: Latches on with Nationals
Ames agreed to a minor-league deal with the Nationals on Thursday, Chris Cotillo of SB Nation reports.
Ames -- a first-round pick in the 2011 draft -- has spent the last seven years of his career climbing the minor-league ranks within the Rays' organization. He spent the 2017 campaign with Triple-A Durham, posting a 3.98 ERA and 78:35 K:BB over 63.1 innings of work. The righty will need to cut down on his inflated walk rate if he hopes to play his way into a big-league relief role with his new club.
