  • Royals' Nolan Watson: Ready to return in minors

Watson (elbow) is listed on High-A Quad Cities' Opening Day roster. Watson underwent Tommy John surgery in May of 2019, and with no minor-league play last year, this is his first chance to get back in action. His last full season was 2018, when he split time between High-A Wilmington and Low-A Lexington, posting a combined 5.24 ERA and 1.64 WHIP across 125.1 innings (24 starts).

  • Royals' Nolan Watson: Recovering from Tommy John surgery

Watson is recovering from Tommy John surgery that he underwent last May, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. The 33rd overall pick in 2015, Watson's career has been derailed by injuries to date, as he also dealt with a shoulder injury in 2017. He is expected to throw in extended spring training and could be sent to High-A Wilmington this summer.

  • Royals' Nolan Watson: Returning from injury

Watson (shoulder) has begun a rehab assignment and is expected to rejoin Low-A Lexington soon, Elon University broadcaster Matt Krause reports. Watson, the Royals' first-round pick in 2015, has been less than impressive in his short minor-league career. At 20 years old, the right-hander has plenty of time to develop, and Watson will look to do just that upon returning to Lexington.

  • Royals' Nolan Watson: To be shut down due to injury

Watson received an anti-inflammatory shot in his shoulder Tuesday and will be shut down for a few weeks, Jeffrey Flanagan of MLB.com reports. Watson, in his third season within the Royals' organization, has posted a 5.71 ERA and a 26:18 K:BB ratio over his first 34.2 innings with Single-A Lexington. He'll take a few weeks to allow his injured shoulder time to heal before returning to Lexington's starting rotation sometime during June.

  • Royals' Nolan Watson: Continues to struggle

Watson has struggled with a 7.88 ERA over 75.1 innings this season at Low-A Lexington. After getting taken by the Royals in 2015 with the 33rd overall pick, Watson has yet to show positive signs of improvement. His 5.6 K/9 and 3.9 BB/9 have also been disappointing, to go along with that high ERA.
