Lail has joined the minor-league coaching staff of the Phillies.
For his first post-playing-career gig, Lail will operate as the pitching development coordinator for High-A Jersey Shore in 2023. The 29-year-old spent the 2022 season pitching in the independent Atlantic League. He logged only 11 total major-league appearances, all between 2019-21, and he gave up 14 earned runs in 21 innings.

Phillies' Brady Lail: Designated for assignment
Rotowire
Lail was designated for assignment by the Phillies on Thursday, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.
Lail made a pair of relief appearances for the Mariners in mid-May before being designated for assignment and claimed by the Phillies. He'll now be designated for assignment again without having earned a big-league opportunity for his new team. There's seemingly a good chance he passes through waivers unclaimed, as he's a 27-year-old with a career 6.00 ERA and a 16.5 percent strikeout rate in 21 major-league innings.

Mariners' Brady Lail: Returns to Seattle
Rotowire
Lail signed a minor-league deal with the Mariners on Thursday, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.
Lail became a free agent in mid-October after refusing an outright assignment to the minors, but he'll wind up in the Mariners' minor-league system after all. The righty recorded a decent 4.41 ERA in 16.1 innings for the White Sox and Mariners last season, though he struck out just 16.9 percent of opposing batters while walking 9.9 percent.

Brady Lail: Bound for free agency
Rotowire
Lail became a free agent Monday after exercising his right to refuse an outright assignment to the minors.
Lail's 4.41 ERA in 16.1 innings this season for the White Sox and Mariners was decent enough, but it took a .200 BABIP and a 93.8 percent strand rate to get there. His 7.35 FIP tells a very different story. As a 27-year-old with an unimpressive 5.21 career ERA in 19 major-league innings, he'll likely be looking for a minor-league deal this winter.

Mariners' Brady Lail: Claimed by Mariners
Rotowire
Lail was claimed off waivers by the Mariners on Monday.
Lail was cast off the White Sox's 40-man roster Saturday, but he'll claim a spot in Seattle's bullpen going forward. The right-hander has a limited sample in major-league action but was effective in one relief appearance with Chicago this year, tossing 1.1 scoreless innings while giving up two hits and striking out one. He should pitch mainly in lower-leverage situations with the Mariners.

White Sox's Brady Lail: Contract purchased by White Sox
Rotowire
Lail's contract was selected by the White Sox on Tuesday.
Lail will take the roster spot that had belonged to Carlos Rodon (shoulder), who landed on the injured list in a corresponding move. He's been almost exclusively a reliever over the last two seasons, though, so he won't be taking Rodon's place in the rotation and will be presumably ticketed for low-leverage work.
